Dirty Paradise

DIRTY PARADISE is a true story. The story of the Wayana people, French Indians of Amazonia who are cursed by living in a region rich in gold. Consequently, the uncontrolled exploitation of this wealth has brought about a severe deterioration of the forest’s ecosystem, the irreversible pollution of streams, as well as countless violations of fundamental human rights.
Sixty years after their first meeting with photographer Dominique Darbois, the film-maker Daniel Schweizer went to meet the Amerindians to tell about the destruction of this unique paradise. This film not only shows the despair of the Amerindians but also their awareness of the problem and how they are trying to cope with their survival. A documentary which gives a human face to a contemporary tragedy which concerns all of us.

Daniel Schweizer

Born in 1959 in Geneva. Studied at ESAV (École Supérieure d'Art Visuel) in Geneva, double degree from the graphic expression and audio-visual departments. Studied at ESEC (École Supérieure d'Études Cinématographiques, Paris). 1983-93 Independent assistant director at the French Swiss Broadcasting Service (TSR) and independent producer. Since 1993 works as independent director and producer. Lives in Geneva and Paris.
